CollegeBowlProjections.com has released their top ten candidates for the prestigious Heisman Trophy award in 2009.
Colt McCoy has to be the top candidate after Texas was shut out of the national championship game and was narrowly defeated by Sam Bradford for the Heisman Trophy this year. Tim Tebow is second only because he has already won the award and voters tend to give their vote to a new winner. Tebow gets the nod over Sam Bradford because the Gators defeated the Sooners in the national championship game. Who would you add to the list? Who did we completely forget?

What Russell Wilson ? Where is Tyrod Taylor or Darren Evans on your Heismman List ? The Hokies outstanding season last year was all cause of Tyrod Taylor , he deserves to be on your list .

I think if whoever we get at quaterback plays decent Julio could maybe make some noise in the heismen. What about Mark Ingram? Even splitting time last year with Glen Coffee Ingram still had a good year. But, all in all this is a good list and most people will have it close to the same.

Man seriously??!!! Not a single player from Ole Miss even on your radar…and Independence Bowl? Yikes man, I’m a TX fan, but Ole Miss is really good…watch for them to play FLA in SEC championship, Jevan Snead top 3 for Heisman.

Terrelle pryor should be ranked first, and julio jones should be moved up a little higher.

I would consider Penn State Running Back a sleeper also. He had a better yards per rush than Javon Ringer. The only thing that could hurt him is the uncertainty of how their offensive line will be.

I would consider Penn State Running Back Evan Royster a sleeper also. He had a better yards per rush than Javon Ringer Last year and on one of the best in the country. The only thing that could hurt him is the uncertainty of how their offensive line will be.

barring injury either tim tebow or colt mccoy will win the heisman, they are the only two players in college right now who can perform at heisman levels no matter who their surrounding cast is

No love for reigning ACC POTY Jonathan Dwyer? Last year’s MR. November averaged 141 yards per game with 7 TDs in 4 games against ranked opponents to close out the regular season. He should definitely be in the discussion when it comes to RBs who could win the Heisman. Compare his 2008 numbers with the two RBs on your Heisman list :
Yards Carries YPC TD
Dwyer 1395 200 7.0 12
Best 1580 194 8.1 15
Hunter 1555 241 6.5 16
So, I admit, Jahvid Best had the superior statistical season, but he got almost a third (511) of his yards and almost half (7) of his TDs on only 33 carries in two games: against Washington (0-12) and Washington State (2-11). While his performances in these games were impressive, they greatly inflated his numbers on the season. If he did not get the opportunity to run over those vastly inferior teams, he would have numbers more similar to those of JD.
Now, although JD had some of his best games against better opponents, he did not do what Jahvid did against weaker teams. Against Gardner-Webb, JD only put up 27 yards on 16 carries and Tech barely scraped a win 10-7. Had he been dominant (and not semi-injured) in the game, he should have padded his stats in the first half while leading his team to an insurmountable halftime lead.
As for Kendall Hunter, he has more TDs and yards than JD. But consider that he did this on 20% more carries. If you expand JD’s numbers to assume he also had 241 carries, he would have put up 1681 yards and 14.5 TD’s. So, Hunter’s higher yardage was just a product of more carries. So, as for why Hunter had more TD’s is simple: he played in a very explosive OKSt offense that scored often. OKSt scored 40.8 PPG whereas GT scored 24.4 PPG, so Hunter got more red-zone opportunities to score touchdowns than JD.
You can bring the scheme argument up about how Paul Johnson’s offence inflates Dwyer’s numbers, but the same could be said for any offense. If a team (say OKSt) has a good passing attack, then you would expect the RB to have good numbers because they get to see 6 in the box all day. If an offensive scheme does not help raise its players’ stats, then it isn’t a very good one.
Any of these running backs would be a critical piece to building a good team. Perhaps their most important stat of all is 0 fumbles lost all 2008 among the three of them. If you have a running back who you can rely on to get solid yardage every play without coughing up the football, you’re going to have success. I’m not saying Dwyer is better than Best or Hunter, but hes at least as good as them and should be in the Heisman discussion alongside his fellow tailbacks.
Having said all that, the obstacle that will prevent JD from winning the Heisman is the lack of national attention given to ACC football. He has the skills and athleticism (as do Best and Hunter), but not the lime-light. Unless Georgia Tech wins the ACC and/or makes it to a BCS bowl game, he won’t get the national stage needed to compete with the big-name quarterbacks.

Why is Jevan Snead not on this list? This just makes no sense. Snead will go ahead of everybody on this list in the draft except for Bradford. This whole prediction staff needs to be fired.

Colt McCoy deserves to be #1. He should have won it last year. And he should of had the chance to win Texas a Championship.

I think Kendall Hunter needs to be replaced by Jevan Sneed mainly because Kendall is on a pass heavy team…. and why the hell couldnt Jevan play like that when he played as Texas it pisses me off

Um, what about Jevan Snead?

If you don’t think that Russell Wilson is a Heisman Hopeful, you obviously don’t know very much about college football. That kid is TALENTED and very smart on the field. He make good decisions. Bobby Bowden says “he’s the most dangerous quarterback I saw last year. And he might be the most dangerous quarterback in the country.”

Totally agree with Nick etter and there’s one more person of the list C.J. Spiller out of Clemson
