Week 2 is Prove it Week!
Game of the Week: Mississippi State Bulldogs at Auburn Tigers
Auburn escaped a huge upset last week as the Utah State Aggies grasped defeat from the jaws of victory. This week they have to host Mississippi State. The 16th ranked Bulldogs made quick work of the Memphis Tigers in week one spanking them by 45. Auburn has to have some sustained drives on offense if they want to beat the Mississippi State. The Bulldogs have to have continued success running the ball and keep the pressure off of QB Chris Relf if they want to knock off the defending champs. This should be a great SEC game, but in the end look for the Mississippi State Bulldogs to prove that they belong in the mix for the SEC title.
Prove it Time for the PAC-12
Week one looked very bleak for the Pacific 12 Conference. This could be redemption week as there are several teams that can make some statements with wins:
Arizona @#9 Oklahoma State: The wildcats don’t look ready to beat the Cowboys but a great effort could go a long way to building their confidence going into league play.
# 21 Missouri @ Arizona State: The Sun Devils want to be in the 1st ever PAC-12 Championship Game and could put the conference on notice with an upset of the Tigers.
Nevada @ #13 Oregon: We all saw what happened to the Ducks last week in Dallas, now Oregon needs to rebound in a big way against a rebuilding Nevada team.
Hawaii @ Washington: The Huskies squeaked out a win against the defending FCS Champions, Eastern Washington Eagles. They need to up their game against the Warriors of Hawaii or they will be at risk of missing out on a bowl game this year.
Other Big Games
#3 Alabama @ #23 Penn State: Alabama looks like they should win this game going away but The Nittany Lions will have something to say about this. The Tide better bring their A game because Penn State will be looking to make a statement.
#12 South Carolina @ Georgia: Before last week we had this game as the week 2 “game of the week!” After lackluster performances by both squads we decided to drop them out of that spot, however, this is a huge statement game for both programs. The winner will emerge as the favorite to win the SEC East.
BYU @ #24 Texas: These 2 programs had disappointing years in 2010 and are looking to prove that they are much improved in 2011. Jake Heaps and the BYU offense need a huge game if they want to upset the Longhorns.
Notre Dame @ Michigan: The new Michigan offense looked mediocre last week but look to improve against a solid Fighting Irish defense. We also will see if the benching of Crist in favor of Rees will pay dividends for Brian Kelly and Notre Dame.
